RPN 50g

HP 12C financial calculator for iPhone, iPad and MacRPN 12C — the financial calculator since 1981, in RPN, to ten digits.

The HP 12C has been the financial calculator of bankers, real-estate agents, accountants and finance students since 1981 — still made today, still allowed in the CFP and CFA exams, still on countless desks. RPN 12C puts one on your iPhone, iPad and Mac, with the face, the keyboard and the display of the real thing.

What you get

Computes as the 12C does

A new simulator written from the calculator's owner's handbook, every worked example of the handbook serving as a test: ten digits, with the 12C's rounding, its stack and its error messages.

Time value of money

n, i, PV, PMT, FV, payments at the beginning or end of the period, odd first periods with simple or compound interest.

Cash flows and amortization

NPV and IRR with up to 20 groups of repeated flows, amortization schedules, simple interest on 360 and 365 days.

Bonds, depreciation, dates

Bond price and yield to maturity; straight-line, sum-of-the-years' digits and declining-balance depreciation; days between two dates (actual and 30/360), a date ahead or back with its weekday.

Statistics and arithmetic

Mean, standard deviation, weighted mean, linear regression and estimation; percentages, powers, logarithms, factorial, rounding, fractional and integer parts.

RPN and programs

The four-level stack, LAST X, the 20 storage registers and register arithmetic; programs of up to 99 lines, with GTO, conditional tests, single-step and pause.

Memory that stays

As on the 12C (Continuous Memory): close the app, come back later, everything is where you left it. Turn the calculator over for its back plate, the reference table of keystrokes.

Keyboard, copy and paste

Copy the number in X with all its digits, paste numbers from the clipboard, decimal point or comma; a hardware keyboard on iPad, iPhone and Mac, where the window takes the calculator's shape.

Offline, private

No account, no ads, no tracking, no data collection. Works fully offline.

In use

Why an HP 12C?

Introduced in 1981 and never discontinued, the HP 12C is the reference financial calculator: mortgages and loans, savings, leases, investment returns, bonds and depreciation, each one a few keystrokes away. RPN — reverse Polish notation, the numbers first and the operation last — is what makes it fast in the hand: no parentheses, no equals key, every intermediate result in view. RPN 12C brings it to the iPhone, iPad and Mac, computing to its ten digits and rounding as it does. Its scientific sibling, the HP 15C, is RPN 15C; the HP 48 and HP 50g graphing calculators are RPN 48 and RPN 50g.

About the calculator

The app contains no HP software and needs no ROM: the calculator was written from its owner's handbook alone, its worked examples serving as tests. Nothing is downloaded; everything stays on your device.
